About Us
Our story begins at the end of the Second World War,
when a young man named Carl Roath returned home to Canada after serving in the army. In those days, the military provided war veterans with career options. Carl was given a couple of choices; he decided to become a watchmaker.
Hard working and full of heart, Carl soon saw an opportunity within his new profession to assist people with their financial needs. He opened Roath’s Pawn Shop in Surrey, BC – a family business in the spirit of service.
Fast forward to fifty years later,
with three generations of Roaths passing the torch of Carl’s legacy. Today, you can walk into Roath’s original Surrey store location (we haven’t moved!), and expect the same down-to-earth, committed service Carl instilled in his pawn shop all those years ago.
Now, a mural of the man hangs on the wall at Roath’s to honour him, and a second (and third!) floor accommodates our ever-growing stock. The times may have changed, but the integrity of our team members and leadership is ever constant.
